Frequently Asked Questions
How
could working with a coach benefit me? Working
with a coach can benefit you in the same way that working with a coach benefits
athletes, musicians, and business executives.
The role of a coach, whether a life coach (like me), an athletic coach, a
musical coach, or a corporate coach is to add value to you.
Athletes and musicians know their coaches provide the “extra
something” that comes from having someone skilled work directly with them.
A coach can point out your blind spots, encourage you, and challenge you
to move beyond your perceived limitations.
You will benefit from working with a coach because your coach will help
you bring out the best in yourself. You
will achieve results that surpass what you could do on your own. To
get value from coaching, you need a strong desire to achieve something, a
willingness to try new methods, and openness to including someone else in the
process. What could you achieve if
you had someone on your side who always believed in you, who always told you the
truth, who pushed you when you needed to be pushed, and who helped you discover
your own special skills and talents? Having
a partner will keep you more motivated, more accountable, and more on track.
When you hire a life coach, you invest in your most valuable asset –
YOU. Coaches
and clients typically work together over the phone three times per month in
half-hour sessions. Most coaches
charge between $150-$1000 per month for this arrangement. (Coaching fees are collected in advance each month, rather
than at each session.) Fees for
corporate coaches are typically at the higher end of this range. I
typically charge $200 per month for three 45-minute phone sessions.
This fee includes unlimited email support (within reason) and unlimited
brief “check-in” calls between sessions (also within reason).
Because my clients are individuals with individual needs, this monthly
arrangement and fee, while typical, is not the only way I coach.
That is, some clients prefer to meet less often while others prefer to
meet more often. Others prefer to
meet in person. Others have
financial situations that come into consideration.
I’m flexible, and I’m committed to collaborating with you to design
the perfect coaching relationship for YOU. The
bottom line is that I love coaching, and I love working with great clients.
If you’re excited about coaching with me and if I believe that we will
both benefit from a coaching relationship, then I want to work with you.
I will work with you to co-create an
arrangement that will ensure that you are getting exactly what you most need and
want. The only way to discover
whether coaching with me will benefit you and whether we will be a good match is
to spend some time together. I
invite you to call me now at (614) 784-8070 so that we can begin to get to know
each other. (You can also schedule
a complimentary session by sending me an email at lisa@lifenavigationcoaching.com.)
The call is free (other than any long distance charges you may incur),
and you are under no obligation of any kind.
I hope that you’ll take me up on this offer.
I look forward to getting to know you! How
will I know that coaching is a worthwhile investment for me? The only way to know for sure is to try it for yourself for a month. At the end of the month, you’ll either know that coaching is a worthwhile investment in you or you’ll know that it’s not. If you’d like to give coaching a try, you can do it with very low financial risk. I offer you a money-back guarantee. If you decide after one month of coaching that your money would have been better spent on something else, I’ll give you your money back. Some coaches require an up-front time commitment or ask for a quarter or year’s worth of fees in advance. I don’t. If your investment in yourself fails to pay dividends right away, you can end our coaching relationship at any time. It’s just that simple. (My only request is that you give me two weeks notice so that we can wrap up our time together.) Another way to look at this is
to think about the opportunity cost. Ask
yourself, "What might it be costing me to NOT have a coach right now?"
What are you missing out on by delaying? I
will actively listen to what you have to say and also to what you’re not
saying. I will ask you questions to
get at the bigger picture and the deeper issues.
I will tell you the truth and respond honestly to you. I will offer you an objective outside perspective.
I will hold you accountable for the things you say you will do by
reminding you of your goals and dreams. I
will support you in your forward movement
toward your own goals. I will
assist you with pulling out your strengths.
I will partner with you to help you create the life that you most want
for yourself. There
are several things that you won’t get from me as your coach.
I won’t do your work for you. I
won’t make decisions for you. I
won’t tell you what to think. I
won’t tell you what you should do.
I won’t tell you all of the answers.
(I don’t presume to have them.) I
won’t lie to you to make you feel better.
I won’t “fix” you or solve your problems for you.
I won’t diagnose you or treat you for any problem or disorder, nor will
I offer legal or financial advice – these types of services are outside of my
areas of expertise. What
can I expect from you as a coach, and what do you expect from me as a client? You
can expect me to be fully present and attentive when we are working together,
that I will always be honest with you, that I will share my knowledge and skills
with you, and that I will have high hopes for you. I
expect that you will be open to growth, be willing to try new things, be honest
with me, and be honest with yourself. I
also expect that you will keep your appointments or let me know in advance and
that you will bring up any concerns that you have about coaching or about our
coaching relationship. Most
importantly, I expect that you will do your own work. The
following diagram shows what coaches and clients each bring to the coaching
relationship. When we both
participate fully in the relationship, you will get the most value out of
coaching that you possibly can – we’ll hit “the sweet spot” of coaching. What
if I don’t know what I need to be coached on? No
problem! Many clients come to me
knowing that something just isn’t quite right with their lives, but they
don’t know what that is or what to do about it.
We’ll start by exploring your values and goals, and we’ll talk about
what is and isn’t working in your life. We’ll
work together to discover what you do and don’t want out of life.
Together, we’ll create a plan that will help you get exactly what you
need and want from our coaching relationship. How
can we work together if we don’t live near each other? This isn’t a problem. Thanks to the telephone and e-mail, we don't have to live near each other. I do most of my client coaching by phone. In fact, some of my clients live hundreds of miles away from me. We’ll find a time to talk that will work well for both of us. Unless
we’ve made other arrangements, you call me.
The coaching process is focused on YOU.
By making the phone call yourself, you are taking responsibility for your
own progress. This may seem minor,
but it’s important! How
long will we work together? We’ll
continue to work together for as long as you are getting what you want and need
from coaching. You’ll see changes
in your life shortly after we begin our coaching relationship, but I have found
that it takes most people about three months to make significant improvements
and to see lasting results. So, I
recommend that clients plan that our coaching relationship will last for at
least three months. However, I
don’t require any type of commitment. I
want to hire a coach, but I don’t want to work with you. No problem! I can refer you to other coaches who might be a better fit for you. |
