Meet Lisa

Who am I, and why am I a life coach?

My name is Lisa Evans, and I am a happy person who is committed to growth and personal evolution.  I live in Columbus, Ohio with my husband, our kids, and our cat, close to family and friends.  I am dedicated to “realizing life while I live it – every, every minute” (to paraphrase Thornton Wilder, a.k.a. Emily Webb in “Our Town”).  And, I am thrilled to help others do the same as a life coach.

I earned my Ph.D. in social psychology from Ohio State University in 1998.  The science of social psychology fascinates me, as it presents an approach to understanding others and ourselves that just seems to fit me and my understanding of the world.  Our thoughts, attitudes, and behaviors stem from both who we are (our personalities) and the situations we are in (our environment).  By changing our situations or working on our characters, we can have a profound effect on ourselves and on our interactions with others.

After several years of college teaching, I opted to leave academia in favor of more applied work.  I spent time searching for work that felt right and that brought me joy, and eventually I discovered life coaching.  I realize now that I’ve felt drawn to life coaching throughout my life – before I even realized that the field existed.  My dissertation incorporated elements of life coaching through its focus on the power that our motivation to “close the gap” between our actual and ideal selves has on our behavior, attitudes, and opinions.  Now, through coaching, I am able to help people focus their own motivation and achieve their own ideals.

I’ve applied my research to practical topics, such as my own personal growth and the growth of others.  I’ve demonstrated an ability to help others map out attainable plans for achieving their goals.  For example, I coached a dear friend through completing his dissertation and earning his Ph.D.  My assistance was so valuable that he asked me to marry him.  Really.  We’re very happy! (Though, perhaps my coaching skills weren't the only reason he proposed...)

I’ve experienced a lot of life’s offerings in my 35 years.  I’ve earned a Ph.D.  I’ve lost people who are dear to me.  I’ve left situations that are bad for me.  I’ve found true love.  I’ve discovered my calling.  I've created a family.  And, I’ve made a commitment to being my best self.  I am likewise committed to helping others discover their best selves and, even more so, to helping them “close the gap” between their actual selves and their ideal selves.  Life coaching helps people do just that.  I encourage you to learn more about coaching by taking the next step.
